Yamaha WaterCraft Group wanted a partner who could help them increase conversions and customer engagement on their Boats and WaveRunners websites. We worked with them to deliver a brand refresh, best-in-class website redesign, and new information architecture. One month after launch, the two websites saw an 88% increase in traffic (169% increase on mobile).

Background

My role

I worked with Yamaha WaterCraft Group to understand their brand and product offerings, and learned how they fit under Yamaha Motor Global and Yamaha Corporation. I audited the usability of their websites: YamahaBoats.com and YamahaWaveRunners.com. I provided usability recommendations and set the direction for the visual design. I managed a UX/UI designer who created wireframes and user interface mockups based on my usability recommendations and visual design direction. I worked with the client and our marketing team to write UX copy and I provided creative oversight on the email campaigns the marketing team created.

Design

A new look

The previous website design had become noticeably outdated. We redesigned the Boats and WaveRunner websites and gave them a bold and sophisticated look that better represented Yamaha’s best-in-class reputation.

Experience the on-the-water lifestyle

We wanted to recreate the feeling of being on the water by using large, action-packed photography and videos. They show the excitement and activities you’d experience as a Yamaha watercraft owner.

Intuitive product navigation

Yamaha's previous websites made it difficult for customers to find the information they needed to make buying decisions. We helped organize their products and other marketing content to encourage engagement and exploration.

Product recommendations and personalized content

We developed an interactive quiz to match customers to the best WaveRunner or Boat for their interests, budget, and lifestyle. We then serve up personalized content based on their results.
